Guide to Government

CIVICS & HISTORY TEXTBOOKS

The League produces two compelling civics textbooks, The State We're In: Washington. A new version is designed for elementary grades 3-5, and  the eighth edition of the original is for grades 6 and up.

These highly praised civics textbooks cover the basics of local, state, and tribal governments. They are user-friendly and show the ethnic and geographic diversity of our state. They also describe current and historic tribal governance and their interrelationships with state and local governments in Washington. The books and their teacher guides are available in hard copy and online.

These materials are endorsed by teachers, the Washington State Indian Education Association, WA Council for Social Studies, and the Office of the Superintendent of Public Education. They are produced and published by the League of Women Voters of WA Education Fund under the guidance of Karen Verrill, Project Manager.

For more information or to get involved in the League of Women Voters of Washington civics education project, contact Karen Verrill.
