The Board consists of the officers, elected directors and appointed directors. As described in the LWVTC Bylaws (link), its responsibilities include:

  • Managing the League’s business subject to the instructions of the general membership.
  • Planning and directing the work to carry out the League Program
  • Developing and maintaining a set of operating policies and procedures. These include how the conflict of interest-nonpartisanship and diversity, equity and inclusion policies apply to board members and off-board chairs.
  • Among other responsibilities, the Board annually drafts or reviews League policies, conducts board training and new member orientation, participates in state and national League Program planning, plans a calendar of meeting and activities for the year; and approves consensus reports for state and national studies.

COMMITTEE MEETINGS
COMMITTEE MEETINGS

Committees typically meet at least monthly, at a date/time/location that is convenient for the Committee members. Once you have joined a Committee, you will be notified of the next meeting's date/time/location. If you are interested in joining a Committee, you are welcome to attend a Committee meeting before you make your decision. Simply contact the Committee chair beforehand to let them know of your interest.

ANNUAL MEETINGS
ANNUAL MEETINGS

We currently hold two annual membership meetings. Both meetings are open to all members, and we welcome and encourage your attendance.

• Annual Program Planning Meeting - Held in January, this is the meeting where we select and outline current and upcoming Committee work for the coming year. We hear about upcoming legislation affecting issues that we are interested in and welcome new members.

• Annual Meeting - At this meeting (generally in May), we nominate board members and chairs, reflect on the year’s achievements, and learn what's going on in committees.

NEW MEMBERS

These meetings are perfect for discovering what the League is all about. If you are inclined to actively participate in the League, these are great meetings to attend to figure out which of our activities fit your interests.

Meeting Guidelines
Meeting Guidelines

Our members discuss topics in a respectful way. We work from an agenda. We learn effective techniques for public discussion, how to advocate on specific policies, and what the issues beneath the rhetoric are.

Our study and consensus process ensures that we are fully informed on issues before we take a stand. We also host public forums and debates which are well known for being fair, transparent and civil. This approach has earned the League a global reputation for integrity and thoroughness.

Any member can join a committee, chair one, or nominate themselves (or another member) for a board position. You will receive plenty of help from those with experience and these positions are a great way to get involved in your community, build leadership skills, or just make life-long friends!
